10 Facts About Immigrants

1)  In the United States, there are 22 million women, 20.4 million men, and 2.5 million children that are immigrants whose home is now the U.S.

 

2) The top countries that immigrants came from are Mexico, India, China, the Philippines, and El Salvador.

3)  In 2019, there were 38.3 million native born people who had at least one parent that was an immigrant.

5)  47% of all new immigrants had a college degree between 2015 and 2020.

 

6)  33% of all immigrants in 2019 completed an education level of a college degree or higher. The share of natives who reached this same level of education is also 33%.

 

7)  Visa overstays are now the main source of unauthorized immigration in the United States.  They now outnumber unlawful border crossings.

 

8)  Almost 60% of unauthorized immigrants have been in the U.S. for a minimum of 10 years.  14% of that same group have been here for a minimum of 20 years.

 

9)  One out of every six workers in the United States are an immigrant.  This makes them a vital contributor to the U.S. workforce.

10)  2,689,819 immigrants that work in management occupations.
